  4. It starts with advisors.
  5. The Central Intelligence Agency feels
  6. some sort of need to sell drugs, trade
  7. arms, assassinate communists,
  8. fascists, and capitalists for fun, and
  9. stick their noses in everybody's
  10. business.
  11.   You work for them for years. They
  12. make you do things you'd never tell
  13. mom about. They start making you do
  14. things you can't even "tell yourself
  15. about".
  16.   Somewhere along the line you realize
  17. that what started out travel, large
  18. pay, excitement, adventure, making the
  19. world safe for democracy; has become
  20. robbery, embezzlement, murder,
  21. wirefraud, terrorism, corruption,
  22. murder, piggishness, murder,
  23. subversion, and murder.
  24.   NOW COMES QUITTING TIME.
  25.   John Stockwell speaks to us from his
  26. experiences working as a CIA agent.
  27. He's speaking at URI today. He may
  28. have spoken at your school already;
  29. you may be on his "road list" for '88
  30. - '89.
  31.   Listen to the horror stories. Ponder
  32. his analagies. Make his experiences;
  33. your experiences. while you do; ask
  34. yourself, "Do I want the CIA on my
  35. campus recruiting?"
  36.   Personally, I think if CIA would
  37. hold a public debate allowing people
  38. like me and you to ask real questions,
  39. they'd be8;9e than welcom to use one
  40. of our rooms for interviews and
  41. answering any questions a "budding
  42. agent" might have.
  43.   But if you want to drive in and park
  44. your tinted windows in front of the
  45. Union, grabbing a helicopter out back
  46. going to the fieldhouse and then board
  47. a piperplane parachuting over the
  48. alumni building and escorting about 75
  49. uniformed police officers thru the
  50. side door; then...
  51.   GET THE FUCK OFF MY CAMPUS.

  56. I SURVIVED RUTGERS '88.
  57. It was the best Be-In I've ever been
  58. to.
  59.   3 or 4 days of gathering,
  60. fellowship, brainstorming, ideas,
  61. entertainment, tabling, leafletting,
  62. hell. We even allowed the fascists a
  63. table.
  64.   It was exciting, it was awesome, but
  65. nothing "solid" happened from it.
  66.   Yet.
  67.   I would like to cite 4 units for
  68. making Rutgers happen, and holding the
  69. thing together. If by a thin thread
  70. that started to look really frazzling.

  74. Rutgers hosts and assorted yellow-arm-
  75. banded delegates.
  76.   I'll also share 2 schools who came
  77. bearing something solid they wanted to
  78. bring back with them. <1> MIT  <2>
  79. Berkley. Something old, something new,
  80. borrowed and blue too.
  81. Old? Berkley. One of the oldest
  82. freethinkin colleges Amerika has to
  83. offer. Why not? It's California.
  84. New? MIT. They call Massachussetts
  85. home. Probably the first state that'll
  86. legallize marijuana. Amherst? Boston?
  87. CZ? Dukakis? Somethin brewin!!!
  88. Borrowed? The whole idea behind a
  89. constitution.
  90. Blue? People bummed out that nothing
  91. really "happened". The black caucous
  92. ripped us to shreds Sunday morning,
  93. showing us for what we really are, and
  94. still most overcome:
  95.   Slightly racist, semi homophobic,
  96. somewhat ready to gather but not quite
  97. ready for a constitution.
  98.   I say fine. Let's keep in touch,
  99. relax, and get ready for what's sure
  100. to "glue" us together really fast.

  116. or anything-- they sure were great--
  117. but these may be the greatest of
  118. times.
  119.   The 60's were the awakening of
  120. revolution and this is another step in
  121. that revolution.
  122.   School needs to be changed. We need
  123. to talk about more than the history
  124. they want us to believe. We need to
  125. get into the education process. The
  126. real history. The artist tries to
  127. stimulate thought. The media is really
  128. the way to get across.
  129.   We shut down Sun City overnight.
  130. Once the Billionaire owner showed up
  131. on Phil Donahue we knew we won. And
  132. the fact that we wasted him on
  133. National TV was icing on the cake.
  134.   A new way of organization; a
  135. computer networking system.
  136. Communicate, share, co-ordinate,
  137. collaborate, update, type, edit,
  138. store, fast. Online worldwide.
  139.   Peacenet.
  140.   Amnesty International can type an
  141. Action Alert and get it to Greenpeace,
  142. WRL, and SANE faster than you can hit
  143. your <enter> key. Since the users
  144. govern what information is sent, it is
  145. unfiltered. Most of the news we get
  146. each day has been edited out and
  147. watered down. Not so as much with
  148. networking.

  158. makes the host system local to every
  159. college campus in the World.
  160.   More than 650 are registered
  161. delegates as of this moment,
  162. representing over 130 schools. You've
  163. come despite freezing weather and hard
  164. economic times to do something I'm not
  165. sure anyone here is yet ready to
  166. comprehend. But, I'm absolutely
  167. convinced that you are making history.

  170. imaginative, creative, and daring. To
  171. bring this many strains of people
  172. together who all believe in the same
  173. kind of change...
  174. society. It's just an amazing feat;
  175. and I wish you the best of luck today

  177. the decision whether to go backward or
  178. forward.

  184. local cop comes in and buys a
  185. crossword puzzle book and a jumbo pack
  186. of gum.
  187.   "Long nite, eh?" I suggest.

  190. vehicle> He turns up the volume on his
  191. radio and concentrates. <check and see
  192. if it's safety prob or not. Two black
  193. youths>
  194.   He gives me the money and turns to
  195. leave.
  196.   "Gotta roll," he says.
  197.   "Hey," I tell him, "If it's a black
  198. kid and a Puerto Rican kid, take good
  199. care of 'em. They're pretty cool. From
  200. my hometown. They just bought 2 quarts
  201. of oil off of me."
  202.   He grunted maybe; and left.
  203.   I hope my THOUGHT stuck with him. He
  204. looked like your typical "Jewbeater".

  250. computer February 9th when I returned
  251. from a New Jersey-Albany-NYC-
  252. Providence stint which was a direct
  253. result of the Rutgers Convention.
  254.   Other issues will come out as
  255. needed. (you'll probably see us at a
  256. few Dead shows, Terence D'Arby
  257. concerts, and maybe a Celtics game
  258. here and there)
